mini-Nubian adventure in Aswan
4:53 PM
While travelling in Aswan with maxi-Andy and pals, our mini-Adventurer caught the attention of a maxi-Nubian sailor with crazy dreadlocks and ting, called Ibrahim.
Ibrahim was a very kindly Nubian feluca captain and invited mini-Andy back to stay for the night in his Nubian village on an island somewhere in the Nile. Armed with maxi-Andy's spare camera, mini-Andy and Ibrahim took off for the night and explored the depths of Nubia, in a way that only mini-Andy could.
After a few drinks and some sheesha, mini-Andy and maxi-Ibrahim had to find their way to the island in the middle of the night by boat, a task made much easier by the fact that mini-Andy is an accomplished rower.
After landing on the island and taking a short rest, mini-Andy was invited by the locals to get down to a game of cards, which he obviously won hands down, as no-one could see through his awesome poker face.
After having cleaned up at cards, mini-Andy was invited to all see the village elders.
After this little formality, our mini-Adventurer stopped off to meet and greet the Nubian children, who loved him and didn't want to let him out of their sight!
It didn't take him long at all to make himself at home and pretty soon he was part of the family.
Some of the guys took the opportunity to learn from our mini-Adventurer's vast world knowledge and wisdom and he talked at length about philosophy and Barbie dolls, two subjects for which our mini-Descartes is a known world authority.
The next morning after breakfast, our mini-Diplomat was out in the thick of it as usual, happily talking to the maxi-guys and girls all the same.
Sadly the time had come for our mini-Adventurer to get back to maxi-Andy who's hectic schedule meant that he could only stay for a single day on the Nubian island.
Ibrahim rowed on the way back, while our mini-Travel addicted papier mache pal bathed in the glorious Egyptian sun.
